The Philosophic Lodge of Research received its charter on February 5, 1942; and is the oldest Research Lodge in the State of Connecticut.

Prior to moving to the Cromwell Masonic Eastern Star Building, (also the home of Washington Lodge No. 81), the "PLR" as it's known met at the banquet facilitites of the Holiday Inn on Sebeth Drive in Cromwell.

Members of the Philosophic Lodge of Research have included Brothers from every level of the Fraternity with an interest in Masonic History and education. Perhaps the most well known member is Past Grand Master Sam Walker who is also the Past President of the Philalethes Society.
